Frequently Asked Questions
About our practice
-
Dr. Keila Rodriguez, a board-certified pediatrician, is the only physician at Nurture Pediatrics and will be the physician regularly seeing your child.
-
Absolutely! In fact, we strongly encourage you to make a prenatal appointment a few weeks before your due date to get better acquainted with the office and doctor.
-
While we understand this may not always be possible, we do kindly ask for a 24 hour advance notice for a cancellation.
-
Yes. We will be in network with most private insurance plans. We are not currently in network with government funded healthcare plans (Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP). Please leave your information on our waitlist either way if you are interested in joining our practice and have these insurances so we can reach out if anything changes.
-
Absolutely. Make sure your pediatrician sends us a referral so we can schedule your appointment. We will send your pediatrician notes on the visit and you will otherwise, stay with them for all general pediatric concerns.
-
Let us know when you call what concerns you have. We will let you know whether we can address these all in one visit.
About YOUR VISIt
-
Schedule through online portal (coming soon), call, leave a voicemail, text, or email.
-
We recommend giving us a call before walking in. We will then give you information on availability. Depending on the schedule for the day and to honor our previously made appointments, we may or may not be able to accommodate walk in visits.
-
We do our best to see our patients the same day. The earlier you call, the more likely we can fit you in the same day.
-
Nurture Pediatrics follows the recommendations provided by the CDC and American Board of Pediatrics. We do not accept patients who are not vaccinated or on track to be fully vaccinated.
About breastfeeding
-
Look for multiple wet diapers, regular stools, healthy weight gain and an active baby. Your baby should be sucking and swallowing during feeds and gaining weight steadily. Call us to schedule a weight check if you’re concerned.
-
Most illnesses are safe for breastfeeding but it’s always best to consult your doctor if you have concerns. Come in for a visit if you have questions.
-
That's not a problem. Formula is an effective way to nourish your baby. Here are some things to consider:
Talk to your doctor: They can discuss the benefits and drawbacks of formula feeding.
Feeding method: Decide on bottle-feeding or another method.
Support: Let your partner, family, and close friends know your decision. Their understanding and support are important.
About nutrition and obesity
-
It's a good idea to discuss your child's weight with your pediatrician at their regular checkups. We track your child's weight for growth using weight-for-height charts that consider age and gender. Here are some signs that might indicate it's a good idea to see your pediatrician sooner rather than later regarding your child's weight:
Sudden changes in weight: This could be rapid weight gain or loss.
Concerns about your child's growth: If you feel your child isn't growing at a normal pace, discuss it with the doctor.
You notice a significant difference from their growth percentile: While percentiles are a range, a large jump or drop can be a cause for concern.
You have questions or worries about your child's diet or activity level.
You are welcome to schedule an appointment for an evaluation and we will discuss whether further visits are necessary or not. Our goal is to meet your needs and we will thoroughly explain how we can help during your visit.

We use weight-for-height charts to determine if you child is overweight or obese. These charts consider age and gender. There are exceptions and drawbacks to these methods of measurements and we can discuss these during your visit.
